Feature About You, The Riders

September 2002 - John Jeffries

Interviewed by Tim Jeffries

John Jeffries
WW: Who are you, where are you from and how old are you?
JJ: John Jeffries, a small town close to Orlando, 10 years old.

WW: How long have you been riding?
JJ: Almost two years.

WW: How did you get into wakeboarding?
JJ: My dad went out on his friend's boat and tried it. He thought I might be good at it.

WW: What do you like most about wakeboarding?
JJ: Its fun and you get to learn a lot of new stuff.

WW: What's the coolest thing that has happened to you because of wakeboarding?
JJ: I got to see a lot of pros ride, I got to go double on the cable with Shaun Murray and I met a new friend from Holland. His name is Bjorn. My dad met his dad on the Wakeworld website and when they came to Orlando, they went out with us on the boat? It was cool to meet them.

John Jeffries
WW: What's your board and binding setup?
JJ: 2001 Trip 128 and Belmont Bindings. I ride left foot forward.

WW: What kind of boat do you ride behind?
JJ: Supra Launch at home, and at Tournaments I ride behind an Air Nautique.

WW: What kind of tournaments?
JJ: Performance Ski and Surf's Gravel Tour mostly and I rode at a Hyperlite tour stop in Tampa.

John Jeffries
WW: How are you doing in Performance Ski and Surf's Gravel Tour?
JJ: I am in first but there is one stop left, number six.

WW: Who is your biggest competitor at the tournament?
JJ: Daniel Powers and Todd Solari are both tough.

WW: Where do you ride?
JJ: C54 canal at home and in tournaments mostly at OWC.

WW: Do you like the cable park at OWC?
JJ: Yes, a lot. I like to practice new moves there and I love the sliders.

John Jeffries
WW: What's you favorite trick?
JJ: Osmosis 540. My friend Justin can do them. It is so tight.

WW: What tricks are you working on at this time?
JJ: 360's off the pipe dragon and wake to wake behind the boat.

WW: How's it coming?
JJ: I have not landed one off the slider. I am over-rotating. I have landed a couple behind the boat.

WW: What other hobbies do you have?
JJ: Jumping on the trampoline, skating and skateboarding. Mostly having a good time.

John Jeffries
WW: What do you do for a living?
JJ: School, I am in the fifth grade.

WW: Before we go is there anyone you would like to thank?
JJ: My parents, my coach, Glenn Fletcher, at the Air Control Center at OWC, Craig and Justin Butinsky for all the support, Mr. Bill Porter and the gang at Performance Ski and Surf, which is the best shop in the world and my friends for having a fun time with me.
