We thought about calling it off for 2005 since we had just finished our Katrina Benefit Auction and didn't want to go to the well too often. However, you proved that the wakeboarding community's generosity knows no bounds! WakeWorld readers and a great group of sponsors teamed up to make a lot of underprivileged children's holidays a lot brighter this Christmas season. Together we raised $3,818.07 for the U.S. Marine Corps Toys For Tots program. In the process, 30 lucky WakeWorld readers got some great deals on wakeboarding gear packages donated by our sponsors.

The whole idea was to put together some kind of charity event as we head into the holiday season each year. We've always thought it would be a good idea to auction off wakeboarding packages for charity, so we jumped on the idea and decided it would work even better if we donated the proceeds to the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.

Toys For Tots collects new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year and distributes those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.

Since it's absolutely impossible to purchase $4,000 worth of toys without a crew of 10 to push the carts, my family and I did the best we could by pushing four carts of toys and several bikes out the door of our local Wal-Mart. Believe it or not, that only put a $1,202.07 dent in the funds. So the truckload of toys and the remaining $2,616 in cash were donated to the local Toys for Tots location here in San Diego last night.
