Terms and Definitions
Hits - Hits refers to the total number of requests for files made to a website's server. This includes content pages, graphics and errors. Also referred to as total requests. See explanation of hits versus page views below.
Banner Ad - A banner ad is an image (468 X 60 pixels) that appears at the top of all pages except the front page and discussion board pages.
Button Ad - A button ad is an image (120 x 90 pixels) that appears on the lower left-hand side of all pages except the front page and discussion board pages. It is located just below the main navigation menu.
Click-through - Click-through is when a visitor clicks on an advertisement, thereby linking the visitor to the advertiser's website.
Click-through Ratio - Click-through ratio is a mathematical term that indicates the success of an advertisement. It is derived by dividing click-throughs by total impressions.
CPM - CPM is a shorthand method of referring to cost per 1000 impressions.
Gold/Silver/Bronze Ad - A Gold/Silver/Bronze ad is an image (140 x 60 pixels) that appears on the right side of all (Gold), half of (Silver) or 1/4 of (Bronze) WakeWorld pages. Gold/Silver/Bronze ads appear at the top of all discussion board pages.
Impressions - Impressions refers to the number of times an image (banner, button or Gold/Silver/Bronze image) is displayed.
Page Views - Page views refers to the total number of times an entire web page was requested from the server. Also referred to as requests for pages. See explanation of hits versus page views below.
Referring URL - A referring URL is the specific address of the web page from which a website's visitor came.
