Tootsie Roll - QuickTime Video File (0.9 mb)
Pre-Requisites: TS Front Roll, Scarecrow, Toeside 180, Comfortable passing the handle.
How To: Cut out from the wake the exact same distance you would for a wake to wake scarecrow (approx. 15 feet).
Cut into the wake with two hands using the same approach as you would a wake to wake scarecrow.
You want to remember to let off your edge at the bottom of the wake, and let your momentum carry you up to the top of the wake (just like a Tantrum, Front Roll, Scarecrow, etc.).
Once at the top of the wake turn your head to look over your back shoulder, and yank the rope as hard and quick as you can with both hands behing your lead hip and to the small of your back.
As soon as you get the rope behind your back, release with your back hand, move your back hand around your body, and pass the handle to it as quickly as possible. The whole handle passing portion of the trick should be thought of as explosive. Do it very quickly.
Once you have passed the handle, the trick will fall into place.
You should keep your head turned throughout the trick.
It is hard to spot your landing. After attempting the trick a few times, you'll figure out where you are in the air, and will know when to stick the landing.
Make sure to use your knees as shocks to make a smooth landing.
Pro Tips: Having trouble getting the handle? Try yanking harder and faster. Before doing the trick just ride in one spot, practicing yanking the handle to the small of your back with two hands. Also practice passing the handle after you yank it (c'mon guys, I'm talking about the handle..remember?). Just remember to pass the handle back, as soon as you get it before the slack in the rope tightens up, so it doesn't spin you.
Still can't get the handle? Try rotating your shoulders and upper-body away from the boat. This way, you almost spin your self to the handle.
Still not getting the handle? Try letting off of your edge more at the bottom of the wake. The more you let off of your edge at the bottom of the wake, the more slack you create, making the handle pass easier.
The reason I have spent so much time explaining the handle pass, is because that is the whole trick to the Tootsie Roll. Once you can get the handle, it's over, you'll land it in no time. Trust me.
